Rylie glanced at the snow-covered surroundings. She was walking through a dense forest, but the previous snowstorms had blanketed the area completely. Her squad members were wearing white outer coats over their protective gear to camouflage with the environment.

Rylie smiled as she saw Nicky struggling to trudge smoothly in the spread of snow. His hands flailed clumsily with every step he took.

"Nicky, stop doing that. You look like a good shot target." Dawn said when she glanced behind her shoulders. The redhead was leading the way, followed by Nicky and Rylie.

"I hate the snow." Nicky muttered under his breath, and glanced at a smiling Rylie.

"But it's a beautiful day." The small blonde replied back gently. "You should be glad the snowstorm's over.

Nicky scoffed. "I will be glad when we get out of here."

"Stop complaining, Nicky." A voice buzzed through the squad's ear pieces. It was Zack's voice. The leader was at the headquarters, watching over their steps from an aerial view. "We chose a perfect day. The snowstorm may not come back until the evening. That will give you guys a good eight hours or so."

The squad fell silent again after an exchange of nods. The only sounds they could hear were the crunching of crisp snow with the steps they took. Sometimes they listened to the sounds of leaves rustling with the whirling cold wind, always anticipating the possibility of snow falling from the top of trees. Rylie glanced behind her. Ryan was last in the line they had formed because he was in charge of covering their footsteps. Being the sniper, he felt it was better to watch over for any signs of activity from a distance.

Rylie became uneasy when she saw that Ryan had a firm grip on his camouflaged rifle. She disliked the silence of anticipating what might happen next.

"Do you remember our first snow, Ryan?" The blonde girl piped up suddenly to distract herself. She fleetingly looked at the boy behind her for a sign of comfort.

There was a short silence before Ryan answered, "Not now, Ryle."

"Why not?"

"Yeah, Ryan – why not?" Nicky joined in.

Ryan grunted. "It's not the place."

"I was only going to mention how much you love snow." Rylie spoke. "You used to stay outside all the time when it snows at my parent's log cabin."

"Ryan's right." Zack spoke through the transmitter. "Stay focused; you're all almost there."

"I thought we're only going to see an old lady to treat her." Rylie said. "What's with the stealth?"

"She's trading medical treatment for information about her brother who we're after." Zack replied. "For all we know, she could have contacted him behind our backs. It's just caution."

Rylie looked a little displeased. Seeing that, Nicky patted her shoulder with his thick gloves. Below his white beanie, Rylie could see his warm eyes crinkled towards her.

"We're near." Dawn spoke up and she gestured the squad to hide in the shadows. Nicky took Rylie to hide her behind a large tree. Dawn followed suit. After exchanging a few silent gestures, Ryan furtively headed a few feet towards their target place. From her vantage point, Rylie could see that beyond a few more feet of thick forest, there was a small clearing where an oddly picturesque cabin was situated. Small wisps of white smoke came out of a tiny pout from the top of the house.

"What kind of person will live in such isolation?" Rylie asked.

"I don't know." Nicky replied softly. "Someone with the information we need, hopefully."

Rylie bit her lip and watched as Ryan began to disappear in the shadows of the dark, dense forest. She knew that he was surveying the area for possible hiding enemies. Rylie felt a little relieved when the brown-haired boy came back with the nozzle of the rifle pointing down.

"Coast is clear." Dawn said. Zack repeated to confirm the situation as the squad gathered.

"Okay, so we know the drill." Dawn spoke to them in a low voice. "I'll go in first. When I give the signal, you guys can come in. Whatever happens, keep Rylie safe. She's the key to our information."

"Maybe I should be the first to go in," Nicky said.

"No," Dawn said, ignoring the chivalry in Nicky's request. She checked her equipment and continued "I was the one who contacted her, so she's expecting me."

If Nicky wanted to stop her, he certainly didn't show it. As the redhead cautiously made her way towards the house, Nicky and Rylie hid behind the shadows of gigantic trees. Moments seemed to pass slowly as they quietly watched Dawn approached the front door. Nicky used a pair of special lenses that act like binoculars to observe her. The winds began to pick up, and the way nature howled gave Rylie chilly goosebumps. She saw that Ryan took his sniper position a few feet away from them, his finger ready at the trigger. Rylie wanted to catch Ryan's attention for a quick moment of ease, but the boy was indifferent towards her gaze.

"Crap." Nicky cursed under his breath.

"What? What is it?" Rylie questioned.

"I have to go. Ryan, take my spot." Without waiting for an answer, Nicky ran towards the trees closest to the house.

"Stupid, stupid." Ryan muttered as he quickly strutted to cover Nicky's position. He motioned Rylie to lie low as he took his stance again. He crouched next to Rylie and took a firm grasp of the bolt handle. Rylie hid her bewilderment at having her close friend holding a three-foot weapon next to her face. No matter how many times she saw Ryan with his rifles, she would never get used to it.

"Better get yourself loaded too," Ryan spoke to her softly, his eyes not leaving his aim. Rylie nodded, knowing the possible circumstances. On the side of her medical kit, she produced a small revolver.

"Dawn," Both Ryan and Rylie listened to Nicky's voice through the transmitter. "I think the house has been infiltrated."

From a distance, the redhead turned her head slightly to show that she was listening.

"Look at the patterns on the porch. The lump of snow is less at the both ends of the house. Someone was out there last night during the storm. He or she can only be there to…"

"Put something in. Like a camera or audio recorder." Dawn spoke softly. Swiftly, she went to the areas where Nicky had pointed out and search in between the snow.

"Try looking up." Ryan said into the transmitter. "He could have been standing, instead of crouching down on the floor."

Dawn followed suit and scrutinized the ceiling of the wooden rooftop. She climbed onto a pillar and searched through. "There's a small box, barely bigger than two fingers. I've opened it, but it's just a bunch of electronic chips. I can't tell what is it for." she said.

"Are they arranged in a like a bow-tie pattern?" Nicky asked.

"Yea, how do you know?"  Dawn replied. She was then distracted by a moving figure in the window and jumped down onto the porch. "Shoot, the old lady saw me. I have to go."

"No Dawn, run away. RUN - -"

Dawn moved away, but stopped. "But she's opening the door—"

"Damn it, it's a bomb!" Nicky rushed out behind the tree and into the clearing, and Dawn tried to follow suit. Then, a series of things happened that Rylie couldn't tell which occurred first: a few gargantuan balls of fire exploded, two bodies flew in different directions, a raging thunder ripped through the tranquil white forest followed by an eerie sound of silence.

Ryan immediately ran towards the clearing, now hazy with thick smoke from burning pieces of splattered wood. He halted and stooped over Nicky, who was groaning in pain. Rylie tailed behind him despite the pounding heartbeat in her ears. When she saw the burns on Nicky's face, she quickly took out her medical kit and took out a roll of gauze.

A buzz through their ear piece interrupted them. "What the hell happened?" Zack's voice resonated. "Was there a bomb?"

"A few, actually." Rylie cleared her throat. "Nicky is injured, I think Dawn is too, but the suspect's sister might be dead…"

"That son of a bitch!" Zack cussed some more, and then paused. "I'm coming to help. Do you need back-up?"

"Will inform you when we do." Ryan cut in, gesturing Rylie to look over the man in pain. Quickly, Rylie showed Ryan how to apply the gauze and ointment.

"Where's Dawn?" She asked, looking around. Ryan pointed out a small clump of red hair amongst the clatter of burning debris from the explosion.

"Go." Ryan spoke gravely over Nicky's moans. "I'll carry Nicky there."

Rylie nodded and rushed towards an unconscious Dawn. Her head was buried in the snow, so Rylie turned the girl over. There were cuts and small perfusions on her face, but Rylie knew there might be serious internal damage from the pressure of the blast.

Ssseepp, ssseepp, ssseepp. Rylie turned her head around to see what caused the sound. She noticed small holes protruded into the snow.

"Duck!" Ryan shouted to her. Rylie did so, in time to see Ryan lift up his rifle. She heard a few shots exchanged, and covered both her and Dawn's heads under her coat.

SSSEEPP. A dangerously close sound of the bullet reached Rylie's ears and for a split second, she thought that Dawn was shot. A sudden jolt in her chest propelled Rylie forward, and she felt her lungs constricted painfully. A wave of intense numbness swelled up in her right chest that spread to her entire body, followed by an extreme pain. Rylie blindly searched for the entry point. Her heart stopped momentarily when she felt a small hole under her right arm. Almost immediately, her body turned cold and began trembling as her vision darkened.

"Rylie! Rylie!... Ryle!" A familiar voice shouted over her. She felt her outer coat removed, but did not see her pool of blood that began to trickle and soak the wet, white snow.

Two heavily-clothed hands gripped hers, and Rylie managed to take a final fleeting look. Ryan's concerned and disbelieved face lingered before she fell into a deep, dark slumber. A memory surfaced right before she stepped into unconsciousness:

"Do you remember our first snow, Ryan?" Rylie asked him on a clear snow day.
"Yeah, why?" The teenage boy said.
The smiling blonde continued, "Because we were holding hands..."
This is a non-canon story, and this goes to especially the ending. This means that the story is very unlikely to occur, but I like the experimentation of the characters and their personalities. :P

With all due respect, questions to either Kai or me regarding what will happen next may be ignored. That being said, no one on Watchers will die from this incident.

Good and bad reviews are heartily welcomed. I hope you enjoy reading the fic.

Also, to those who are concern about me - I can't thank you enough for your persistent support. You know who you are
